Though mortal Men have little life beside the span of the Elves, they would rather spend it in battle than fly or submit. The defiance of Húrin Thalion is a great deed; and though Morgoth slay the doer he cannot make the deed not to have been. Even the Lords of the West will honour it; and is it not written into the history of Arda, which neither Morgoth nor Manwë can unwrite? J.r.r. Tolkien
About This Quote

Húrin Thalion was a member of the House of Hador, a race of Elves that fell from grace with their Master, Melkor. In the book, "The Silmarillion" by J.R.R. Tolkien, Húrin is described as a beautiful Elf who lived in the woods and was known as the fairest of all Elves. However, Húrin fell in love with a mortal man named Nienor. He was forced to flee from his people and live among the mortals as a simple peasant.

While living among the mortals he married a woman named Morwen and had one son, called Túrin Turambar. When Melkor heard of this he came to Nargothrond during the time of his father's death and took Túrin away with him to Angband where he kept him for many years. Túrin spent long years in Angband raising his skill with weapons until he grew up to be one of the greatest warriors ever born.

Finally, Túrin managed to escape Angband and return home to Nargothrond where he founded the Dúnedain of the North which would later be called the Rangers of Gondor or simply The Rangers for short. One day during the War of Wrath, Morgoth had devised a plan to bring about the destruction of Beleriand by sending forth armies from Angband against it's allies; Noldorin Elves under Fingolfin; Beorning Dwarves under Belegost; Men under Fingon; Gondorians under Orodreth; and Balchoth Orcs under Morgoth's first lieutenant, Gothmog (Lord of Balrogs). Morgoth also sent forth armies himself against Fingolfin's forces; mainly elves that hated Fingolfin because he was an enemy of Melkor (the Vala that had enslaved them all). These included Balrogs, trolls, dragons, even orcs made out of stone for this war.

On top of all these forces attacking Beleriand were also Glaurung who had been released after being asleep inside Nargothrond since its capture by Fingolfin's forces during the First Age. Húrin Thalion commanded soldiers in Fingolfin's force during this war against Morgoth but Morgoth was not ready for him because Húrin was considered the most powerful soldier in Westernesse
